What income do I need?
The main applicant generally needs at least 200% of Spain’s minimum wage (SMI). As of March 2026 that means €2,849 per month for a single applicant, €3,918 for a family of two and €4,274 for a family of three, plus €357 for each additional family member. If a single salary is not enough, several contracts or savings can be used.
Can my family apply with me?
Yes. Your partner, children under 25 and parents over 65 can apply with you. Unmarried couples can apply after registering a “pareja de hecho” (civil partnership) in Spain. Parents and adult children can be included where financial dependency is demonstrated, and each family member increases the income threshold.
Can I work with Spanish clients?
If you are employed by a foreign company, your clients must be outside Spain. If you are self-employed, up to 20% of your professional income may come from Spanish clients.
How long does the process take?
Our own cases average 17 working days for the authority’s review, but preparation time and official processing vary. Only the Spanish authorities make the final decision.
Do I need to live in Spain for 183 days a year to renew?
No. Renewal of the Digital Nomad permit does not require a minimum stay in Spain. You do, however, have to meet your tax and social-security obligations, which is why post-approval consulting is part of our support.
Does the permit lead to permanent residency?
Yes. After five years of legal residency in Spain you can apply for permanent residency.
Will I be taxed in both Spain and the UK or the USA?
Spain has double taxation treaties with both the UK and the USA, so you generally will not pay tax twice on the same income. Many applicants also benefit from Spain’s Beckham Law flat rate. Your specific situation is best discussed during the tax consultation.
Will my criminal record be checked?
Yes. Criminal-record certificates and other supporting documents are reviewed as part of the full application. The required countries and time period depend on your residence history.
Are government fees included?
No. Official residence, TIE and consular fees are paid separately to the relevant authorities. Translation and additional-service coverage depends on the selected plan.
